It’s no exaggeration to say I’ve been waiting for this app ever since I got a smartphone.
This is an adaptation of Twilight Creations’ popular(but slightly fiddly) table top game of the same name, I played a ton of that with friends years ago and we all agreed an video game version would be awesome. Finally, here it is!
Basic jist, this is a tile-based game where your goal is to reach a helipad in order to escape a zombie infested town. You start with one tile, the Town Square, putting down another tile each turn to slowly build the game board, making for an original experience each time.
There are plenty of nods to the board game, movement and combat rolls are done via virtual dice, and player characters and zombies are attached to bases as if they were game pieces, hopping from square to square when they move.
I do find the art style a little strange, the gruesome power-up cards from the board game have been used, but the game board has a very cartoony feel. It’s a little jarring at first, but I do like the Burtonesque vibe with the skewed buildings and chasm like drops at the edge of the tiles.
You can play with up to four extra cpu or human players via pass-and-play, the lack of network multiplayer is a shame(although I hear it’s in the pipeline), but some extra game modes are included to give a good single player challenge.
Not having to deal with the management of tile and zombie placement speeds up the game a fair bit, making it a good game to play on the go(as I have been). Zombies!!! Costs £2.99, I grabbed it on sale for 69p – an absolute bargain!
