Eating omurice at Hokkyokusei
Omurice is, as you can probably guess from the name, a fusion of omlette and rice. It’s said to have originated in Osaka and is probably the most famous example of a yōshoku(Japanized forms of foreign dishes). Today I visited the restaurant credited with inventing this yummy dish.

Hokkyokusei(North Star) restaurant is a lovely classic Japanese building, situated just south of Amerikamura and north of Dotonbori river. Inside it’s a very authentic Japanese restaurant with floor seating and an attractive inner court garden. There’s a no-outdoor shoes policy, free lockers are provided.

I visited around midday, and opted for the special lunch set. As well as my chicken omurice topped with tomato sauce I got a hamburg steak with demi glaze and a small side salad, the set’s a pretty reasonable ¥850 with free water included, for an extra ¥150 I grabbed a ginger ale to warm me up as Osaka is pretty chilly this time of year.

The omurice arrived promptly and tasted great, light and fluffy with the tomato sauce providing a nice bit of extra flavour. It was huge too, and including the hamburg steak I was stuffed afterwards! Hokkyokusei is a very pleasant and affordable place to eat, and they’ve had over 80 years of experience making this dish, so you know you’re in for a good meal.

I’ll be heading back soon, no doubt about that!

Howdy excellent blog! Does running a blog like this
take a large amount of work? I have no knowledge of computer
programming but I had been hoping to start my own blog in the near future.
Anyways, should you have any suggestions or techniques for new
blog owners please share. I understand this is off subject
however I just had to ask. Appreciate it!
