Finally complete! my first foray into custom paintjobs and i’m really happy with it. Lots of images herein – all feedback welcome!
Just to recap, with this kit i’ve aimed to restyle my GM into an rollout unit, designating it the RGM-79 01. It’s seen it’s fair share of combat in both training and actual battles, leaving it weathered, scraped, scuffed but still standing tall.
The kit itself is the RGM-79 ver 1.0 from a number of years ago, and to this end the detail was quite lacking compared to todays Master Grades, but I still enjoyed the build overall and am happy with the end result. I’d certainly liken the build more to constructing an HG than an MG.
For the colour scheme I resprayed the blue armour plating white, however I applied the coat quite sparingly to still allow a small amount of blue to show through and add a bit of depth to the paintjob. I then picked panels and parts which are unique to the unit or are articulated in some way and resprayed these grey along with the main body.
In the anime the GM is built and armed using technical data from Amuro Rays battles, so when picking armaments for this unit i’ve ditched alot of the extras it was supplied with. For example, amuro rarely used his beam rifle at range, preferring the hyper bazooka, so i’ve picked the beam spray gun as the primary weapon and hyper bazooka mounted on the rear. Also Amuro rarely used his secondary beam saber, so this unit has one.
The GM also comes with a large shield which i’ve also resprayed from the stock red, and applied and weathered decals carrying its designation.
As a very quick final addition I’ve added an antenna behind the right ear which could do with a bit of tidying up! To make this I cut up an unused part which came with this kit – a grey v-fin!
Hatches in the back of the lower leg open to reveal boosters. Painted this up for effect. Also spent quite a while on the core block which was possibly a bit of a waste of time, but I feel better knowing it’s there 🙂
Scratch decal, applied to the knee.
Mobility is a bit of an issue for this kit, with the lack of inner frame the blocky armour panels do hinder posing a bit, and the waist connector is one of the loosest and crappy i’ve seen.
Hyper bazooka power!
And here it is ready to fight alongside big brother.
Thanks for looking, all feedbacks welcome! 🙂
