Cooking Tori no Karaage

Cooking Tori no Karaage

Earlier this week, Fukuoka Dreaming posted a recipe for the Japanese fried chicken dish Tori no Karaage (鶏のからあげ). It looked so good that I tried making it for dinner last night!

The pic above is my chicken slowly marinading in a mix of soy sauce, sake, garlic and ginger. Yes that is a loaf tin – all my bowls are really tall and deep so it was the only thing I could put all the chicken in so it was all sitting in the sauce – gotta respect the original thinking 🙂

I left this to marinade for a couple of hours while I caught up on some washing up – me so lazy.

All ready to start cooking! The marinaded chicken gets dipped in a mix of egg and potato starch before frying. I had to mod the recipe a bit and use flour because I couldn’t find and starch in my local supermarket 🙁

Any here’s the finished article! served with lettuce and cabbage. Check out our fancy and slightly cheaty chopsticks, we can use proper ones I promise – these are handy when you’ve had a few drinks before eating 🙂

It’s a super tasty meal i’d heartily recommend it, See the full recipe here!

Don’t sound so surprised 😛 I can cook! And by cook I mean follow Asawas instructions 🙂

Thanks to you for posting the recipe! Hope documenting it doesn’t seem too bizarre, I figured it’d either be a nice record of cooking a yummy meal or photo evidence of another culinary disaster on my part, luckily it was the former!
